Hey, welcome back to AI Marketing Brief, the newsletter that’s as refreshing as your morning coffee with a double shot of robot juice. Buckle up for a wild ride—Meta’s Llama 3.1 is leading the charge, the 2024 Marketing AI report is here, and autonomous AI agents are shaking up the workplace.

Here’s what happened this week in AI for marketing:

  • Meta's Llama 3.1 is A Game-Changer in Open Source AI

  • 2024 State of Marketing AI Report Insights Revealed

  • Autonomous AI Agents Revolutionizing Your Workday

  • SearchGPT: OpenAI's Bold Move Against Google and Perplexity

Zuckerberg Says Open Source AI Is The Path Forward

Meta is shaking up the AI industry with the launch of Llama 3.1, including the groundbreaking 405B model. This open-source behemoth promises superior cost-efficiency and unparalleled modifiability. Collaborations with giants like Amazon and NVIDIA ensure robust support, aiming to establish Llama as the industry standard and democratize AI innovation.

Zuck says open source is the future of AI because every company has different needs that are best met with models of different sizes that are trained or fine-tuned with their specific data.

My take: Unlike past tech waves where companies mostly bought SaaS applications, I suspect that the way for companies to get the most value from AI is to create their own solutions in-house using a variety of LLMs.

2024 State of Marketing AI Report Unveiled

Paul Roetzer dropped the 2024 State of Marketing AI Report, revealing a thrilling juxtaposition: AI tech is sprinting ahead while companies are merely strolling. Notable insights include:

  • ChatGPT reigning supreme

  • AI education lagging

  • Stark divide between optimism and job security fears

How Autonomous AI Agents Transforming Your Workday

Imagine kicking off your morning with an AI agent that’s already sifted through heaps of data for you. “Good morning! I’ve got your industry reports ready.” Sounds like sci-fi? Nope, it’s happening now. AI agents are reshaping knowledge work, making research snappier, writing smoother, and managing info like pros.

Here are the key features and use cases of AI agents:

  • Perception–Think of agents as super-sensors, gobbling up data from text, images, and more.

  • Reasoning—They process this info, thanks to machine learning and rule-based systems.

  • Learning–Just like us, they get better with experience.

  • Action–Whether sending an email or controlling a robot, they’re on it.

  • Communication–They chat like humans, making the interaction seamless.

AI agents free you up for strategy and creativity.

SearchGPT Is OpenAI’s Response to Perplexity

Oh boy, the search landscape is getting another serious shake-up. The brainiacs behind ChatGPT are diving headfirst into the search engine game with SearchGPT, aiming to snag a chunk of Perplexity’s pie.

This isn't your average search tool—it's a generative AI powerhouse that promises quick, conversational answers and a treasure trove of links. With buddy-buddy deals with publishers, OpenAI is geared to bring the goods with reliable, up-to-date info.

Imagine typing "music festivals in Boone" and getting a neat summary and links, not a chaotic link dump.

My take: Marketers will need to figure out how to get their content to appear in SearchGPT and Perplexity results, and how to measure the benefit from it.

Here are a few more AI marketing hot takes for you:

  • Scott Stevenson argues that AI diminishes the value of pure management skills, empowering individual contributors to achieve what once required hundreds of people. With AI, a person with great taste can now accomplish tasks that previously needed large teams.

  • Mark Constan distinguishes AI and automation. AI mimics human cognitive functions, while automation focuses on executing predefined tasks to improve efficiency and productivity.

  • Nathan Thompson says AI workflows complete complex processes with human oversight, with more impact than co-pilots, and more reliability than fully automated agents.

  • Bing's new generative search results provide dynamic, easy-to-read summaries rather than just a dump of links.

I’m running a live video workshop on how to use AI for a curation newsletter. This workflow saves me three hours every week and the writing quality is actually good! Join me on Wednesday.
