Here’s what’s going on this week:

  • Speculation rises around OpenAI's mysterious 'Project Strawberry'

  • Google remains the search king despite AI advancements

  • JPMorgan Chase empowers employees with AI assistant powered by ChatGPT

  • OpenAI Co-founder John Schulman jumps ship to rival Anthropic

Is OpenAI's 'Project Strawberry' The Next AI Breakthrough?

OpenAI's next big thing, code-named 'Project Strawberry,' is causing some drama. Sam Altman’s cryptic tweet about strawberries has techies buzzing with speculation. Rumored to be a groundbreaking advancement in AI reasoning, this could be the leap toward true artificial general intelligence. Think Sherlock Holmes with circuit. Whether it’s hype or history in the making, one thing's certain—OpenAI has us all eagerly awaiting the next bite. 🍓

OpenAI Exodus: Schulman Jumps Ship to Anthropic, Brockman Takes Leave

In a twist straight out of a Silicon Valley thriller, OpenAI’s co-founder and pivotal ChatGPT architect has departed for rival Anthropic.

John Schulman, who helped shape the ChatGPT phenomenon, announced he’s packing his bags on X, citing a desire to dive deeper into AI alignment.

Adding fuel to the fire, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman is taking an extended leave.

This shakeup could send ripples through the AI landscape, with Anthropic potentially poised to capitalize on this talent shift.

My take: On one hand, the executive departures at OpenAI aren’t that concerning because they’ve been with the company for nearly ten years. On the other hand, leaving for a direct competitor isn’t the best look.

AI Isn’t Dethroning Google Just Yet

Despite the AI hype, Google still reigns supreme in search volume. Sonata Insights and Datos reveal that while AI search tools like Perplexity are growing, Google outpaces them massively with 290x more search users. Even AI users stick with traditional search engines. So, amidst all the AI buzz, Google remains the unchallenged titan.

JPMorgan Chase Unleashes AI to 60K Employees

JPMorgan Chase is diving headfirst into the AI revolution, rolling out LLM Suite, powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT, to over 60,000 employees. This game-changing tool is set to streamline tasks from email writing to data analysis.

JPMorgan's goal? Turn every employee into a productivity powerhouse by leveraging generative AI while safeguarding its precious data.

My take: Copilots and chatbots are a great way to get started with AI. I’m excited to see Agent systems and AI workflows start to transform the nature of work more significantly in the future.

AI as Your YouTube Muse—Meet Brainstorm with Gemini

Stuck on your next YouTube hit? Enter Brainstorm with Gemini—YouTube’s friendly new AI sidekick. Just toss in any broad idea, and voila, Gemini whips up video concepts, titles, and even thumbnails.

This AI marvel dives into YouTube’s deep data pool, making your creative process smoother than ever.

My take: Co-pilots like ChatGPT have always been great at assisting people with brainstorming, but if Brainstorm can generate good ideas based on its proprietary data, this could be a game changer.

The Service-Heavy Reality of AI Startups

Guess what? Most AI startups are masquerading as product companies while actually being service businesses, notes John Hwang. Shocking, right?

Accenture and BCG rake in more AI cash than OpenAI, all because AI for enterprises is a consulting game, not just software.

Scaling these startups? A Herculean task. Selling AI means endless customization—think bespoke solutions, not plug-and-play. The holy grail of repeatable, high-margin software revenue might be a pipe dream.

My take: At this stage in the AI adoption curve, companies need education on use cases and best practices. There are also a lot of advantages to creating solutions directly with LLMs rather than buying an army of AI apps that drown you in subscription fees and training needs.

  • Delian Zebulgar speculates AI's ability to replicate SaaS companies quickly challenges traditional software's value proposition and business model.

  • I made a short video on how to make content with AI that isn’t generic or robotic. Add your unique insights and POVs and give clear writing style instructions.

  • Salesforce released its open source AI 🍃MINT-1T dataset, with one trillion tokens. It enables users to train larger multimodal models, and advances capabilities in captioning and visual question answering.

  • Microsoft new report on generative AI in real-world workplaces shows AI is already helping people be measurably more productive in their day-to-day jobs.

  • Gartner predicts 30% of generative AI projects will be abandoned by end of 2025. Be careful about hitching your wagon to AI apps that might shut down.
